Lapendary Panels are large, unique acoustical banners hung in a loose catenary fashion or installed flush to the roof deck for a flat appearance with minimum festoon. Basic Uses:

Linear Ceiling Systems are available for interior or exterior use. Composition & Materials: Standard Offerings: Panels are roll-formed

from .032 (PVDF finish), .024 or .019 (Polyester Finish) Aluminum. Sizes and Profiles: Panel widths may be 3 3/8”, 7 3/8” or

11 3/8”. Panel lengths may be from 4’ to 45’. Panels may have a rounded edge (LCR) or a box edge (LCB). They may be installed with or without a recessed filler strip or a flush filler strip.

Colors & Finishes:

In the .032 aluminum, there is a choice of 30 colors in the KYNAR 500® PVDF or HYLAR 5000® PVDF finish. (Request color chart or chips.) In the .019 aluminum, the polyester finish is available in 6 standard colors. In the .024 aluminum, the polyester finish is available in white only. A mirror bright finish is available in .024 aluminum with round edge only. The .032 aluminum is also available in clear and dark bronze anodized.

Products coated with a fluoropolymer, KYNAR 500® PVDF or HYLAR 5000® PVDF finish carry a thirty (30) year limited warranty against cracking, peeling, chalking and fading.

Linear Ceiling Systems are virtually maintenance free. Surface residue may be easily removed by conventional cleaning methods. Minor scratches may be touched up with a matching paint, available from the manufacturer.

More than 2,400 Americans were killed and more than 1,100 were wounded. The attack sank four U.S. Navy battleships and damaged four more. It also damaged or sank threecruisers, three destroyers, one minelayer and damaged 188 aircraft.

Memorials have been built to remember the day and its events. The USS Arizona memorial in Pearl Harbor is a marble memorial over the sunken battleshipUSS Arizona, which was dedicated in 1962. The memorial remembers all military personnel who were killed in the Pearl Harbor attack. Another memorial is that of the USS Utah, a battleship that was attacked and sunk in the attack. A memorial to honor the crew of the USS Utah was dedicated on the northwest shore of Ford Island, near the ship's wreck, in 1972. The ship was added to the National Register of Historic Places and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1989. In 1991, which marked the 50th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Congress established the Pearl Harbor Commemorative Medal. This is also known as the Pearl Harbor Survivor's medal and can be awarded to any veteran of the United States military who were present in or around Pearl Harbor during the attack. The medal can be awarded to civilians, who were killed or injured in the attack.^[2]

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, which is observed annually on December 7, is to remember and honor all those who died in the attack on Pearl Harboron December 7, 1941. On August 23, 1994, United States Congress, by Pub.L. 103-308, designated December 7 of each year as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.^[1] National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is also referred to as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day or Pearl Harbor Day. It is a tradition to fly the Flag of the United States at half-staff until sunset in honor of dead patriots.^[2]

The Summer of Manufacturing highlights the manufacturing heritage of eastern Pennsylvania and the companies that contribute to the technology-driven area.

“The Summer of Manufacturing gives children an opportunity to learn more about what their grandparents, parents, and other family members and neighbors do for a living,” said Dick Bus, president of ATAS. “It teaches them about craftsmanship and skills, the importance of learning and inventing new technologies. This area has a rich heritage because of its manufacturing roots, and I am proud to be part of it.”

ATAS embraced the sponsorship opportunity and got involved in many different ways, including creating a mini-rollformer. This machine teaches the children how metal roofing and wall panels are created, as well as how to compare strengths of panels. Instead of metal, the kids receive a piece of flat paper (a panel) for the hands-on demonstration. They first test the strength of the “panel” by placing metal washers on paper that is resting on a support at either end. As the paper buckles under the weight of just a few washers, it shows that a flat panel isn’t very strong. They then run the paper through the rollformer to create a corrugated “panel,” and next they test this “panel” for strength. From the experiment, the kids learn that a corrugated piece of paper (panel) can hold three to seven times more weight than a non-corrugated one.

The exhibit also includes a display of panels in different manufacturing stages to teach how metal panels are formed. The first panel is flat, the second is a piece of metal formed halfway through a rollformer and the last panel is the finished profile. All the panels have corresponding pictures of the rollformer that created them and descriptions to tie everything together.

ATAS also created an experiment comparing asphalt shingles and metal roofing. ATAS staff built two mini-homes—one with an asphalt roof and one with a metal roof. The homes are equipped with temperature gauges inside and heat lamps outside pointing on the rooftops. The children are asked to guess which roof is cooler, and then they can read the temperature gauges for proof. Time after time, the metal roof proves much cooler than the asphalt.

A final experiment gives kids the opportunity to “emboss” metal. The children use fondant mats, paint rollers and aluminum foil to understand the concept of embossing.

Lastly, ATAS created the “I’m a Maker” series of video profiles. The concept for the video profiles came from “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” and his tours of factories. ATAS’ three-minute video introduces children to ATAS, its employees and its facility, and the interviews discuss the equipment, skills and technology needed to create ATAS products. Some ATAS employees even discuss the importance of kids staying in school, as well as the value of continuing education within employees’ careers.

“Some kids may groan at this fact, but we are always learning,” Bus added with a chuckle. “Our employees are required to meet a level of continuing education for technical skills, marketing, customer service, sales or other business-related needs. This is an aspect of what sets ATAS apart from other companies. We want our employees to reach a high level of success in their careers, and we know education plays a vital role in achieving that goal.”

History of Veterans Day

World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”

In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…"

The original concept for the celebration was for a day observed with parades and public meetings and a brief suspension of business beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The United States Congress officially recognized the end of World War I when it passed a concurrent resolution on June 4, 1926, with these words:

Whereas the 11th of November 1918, marked the cessation of the most destructive, sanguinary, and far reaching war in human annals and the resumption by the people of the United States of peaceful relations with other nations, which we hope may never again be severed, and
Whereas it is fitting that the recurring anniversary of this date should be commemorated with thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations; and
Whereas the legislatures of twenty-seven of our States have already declared November 11 to be a legal holiday: Therefore be it Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), that the President of the United States is requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the officials to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on November 11 and inviting the people of the United States to observe the day in schools and churches, or other suitable places, with appropriate ceremonies of friendly relations with all other peoples.

An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Code, Sec. 87a) approved May 13, 1938, made the 11th of November in each year a legal holiday—a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as "Armistice Day." Armistice Day was primarily a day set aside to honor veterans of World War I, but in 1954, after World War II had required the greatest mobilization of soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen in the Nation’s history; after American forces had fought aggression in Korea, the 83rd Congress, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word "Armistice" and inserting in its place the word "Veterans." With the approval of this legislation (Public Law 380) on June 1, 1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.

Later that same year, on October 8th, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued the first "Veterans Day Proclamation" which stated: "In order to insure proper and widespread observance of this anniversary, all veterans, all veterans' organizations, and the entire citizenry will wish to join hands in the common purpose. Toward this end, I am designating the Administrator of Veterans' Affairs as Chairman of a Veterans Day National Committee, which shall include such other persons as the Chairman may select, and which will coordinate at the national level necessary planning for the observance. I am also requesting the heads of all departments and agencies of the Executive branch of the Government to assist the National Committee in every way possible."

PART I. GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY

Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

Section Includes:

The Work of this section includes all materials, equipment and services necessary to complete the Rainscreen Open Joint Exterior Panel System. System shall consist of solid phenolic engineered exterior façade panel system and supporting assemblies, trim, and accessories required for a complete system installation. Back ventilated self weeping panel and drainage track system based on the Rainscreen Principle, and shall include, but is not limited to the following:

Design, engineering, fabrication and installation of pre-finished solid phenolic engineered exterior façade wall panel system including the support and attachment system.

Prefinished metal flashings, fascias, trim, and closures used in conjunction with the exterior panels.

All supports and attachment devices as required for a secure and complete installation.

Provide all sub-frames, angles, steel reinforcing bars, struts, metal anchors, clips, bolts, nuts, shims as indicated to properly erect, align, and secure all work under this section. All materials including sub-steel: furnished and erected by (or erected under the supervision of) one contractor.

Semi concealed fastening devices with gaskets at intersystem fastening to provide silent thermal movement.

Electromotive isolators between dissimilar metals.

Sealing penetrations through the air barrier system required to accommodate the installation of support and attachment systems under the Work of this section as per air barrier system manufacturer.

SUBMITTALS

Submit under provisions of Section 013000.

Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings consisting of design and installation drawings, finish specifications, and other data necessary to describe the design, materials, sizes, layouts, construction details, and installation. Submit small scale layouts of panels and large scale details of edge conditions, joints, fastener and sealant placement, flashings, penetrations, and special details. Distinction must be made between factory and field assembled work.

Specifically diagram and label air and water defense and evidence of continuity. Drawings must illustrate through diagrams how water is managed, collected, and evacuated to the exterior.

Delegated-Design Submittal: For exterior wall panel assembly indicated to comply with performance requirements and design criteria, including analysis data signed and sealed by the qualified professional engineer responsible for their preparation.

Coordination Drawings: Exterior elevations, drawn to scale, on which the following items are shown and coordinated with each other, using input from installers of the items involved:

Wall panels and attachments.

Girts.

Wall-mounted items including doors, windows, louvers, and lighting fixtures.

Penetrations of wall by pipes and utilities.

Product and System Literature: Manufacturers literature on each product and system to be used indicating physical properties, performance criteria and instructions for specified products, including:

Material Safety Data Sheet

Preparation instructions and recommendations.

Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.

Installation methods

Code Compliance: For solid phenolic product, show compliance with the national and applicable local building codes. Proof of compliance shall include, but not be limited to, appropriate certificates and/or test reports from a qualified testing agency supporting the use of the product for the specified performance characteristics criteria and physical properties requirements. Alternate materials must be approved by the architect of record prior to the bid date.

Engineering Calculations: Submit engineering calculations as required by the local building code, showing that the installed panels and attachments system meet the wind load requirements for the project.

Samples: Submit two samples a minimum of 4 inches by 4 inches (102mm by 102 mm) representing actual product, color, and patterns. Sample edges may vary from field panel edges.

CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

Conform to provisions of Section 01 77 00.

Maintenance and Instructions to Owner’s Personnel: Manufacturers recommendations for cleaning of panels.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Manufacturer Qualification: All primary panel products specified in this section will be supplied by a single manufacturer with a specific ICC-documented quality control program and inspections by a nationally recognized independent organization, the product will be so labeled with relevant traceability details

Installer: Company specializing in work of this Section with minimum three years documented experience of comparable scope and similar complexity to those required in Project.

[Professional Engineer Qualifications: A professional engineer who is legally qualified to practice in the jurisdiction where the Project is located and who is experienced in providing engineering services of the kind indicated.]

Fire-Resistance Ratings: Where indicated, solid phenolic wall panels shall meet local building code requirements for Project, as certified by applicable testing authority.

Affixing Systems shall meet building codes and all specifications and accreditations set forth in Section 1.3 above.

Mock-Up: Provide mockup for evaluation of product and application workmanship.

Finish areas designated by Architect.

Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship and color are approved by Architect.

Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.

Pre-installation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site in accordance with Division 1 Section “Project Management and Coordination”.

Review requirements for solid phenolic wall panel, substrate condition, flashings, special siding details, wall penetrations, openings, and condition of other construction that will affect solid phenolic wall panels.

Review installation procedures and coordination required with related work.

Review temporary weather protection requirements for solid phenolic wall panel assembly during and after installation.

DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

Conform to provisions of Section 016510 and manufacturer’s instructions.

Delivery

Deliver components, solid phenolic wall panels, and other manufactured items so as not to be damaged or deformed. Package wall panels for protection during transportation and handling.

Unload, store, and solid phenolic wall panels in a manner to prevent bending, warping, twisting, and surface damage.

Storage

Store solid phenolic wall panels on a flat, stable horizontal surface, elevated above the ground, and protected from direct sunlight until panels are ready to install.

Do not store solid phenolic wall panels or fabricated panels vertically.

Store solid phenolic wall panels to ensure dryness, with positive slope for drainage of water. Do not store panels in contact with other materials that might cause staining or other surface damage. Do not allow storage space to exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Handling

When moving panels, lift evenly to prevent dragging panels across each other and scratching the surface.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

General Performance: Solid phenolic engineered façade wall panel assemblies shall comply with performance requirements without failure due to defects in manufacture, fabrication, installation, or other defects in construction.

Delegated Design: Design solid phenolic engineered façade wall panel assembly, including comprehensive engineering analysis by a qualified professional engineer, using performance requirements and design criteria indicated.

Performance classified based on AAMA 509-09 test and classification method for drained and back ventilated rain screen wall cladding systems. This method determines the degree of wetting of the water resistive barrier and the available ventilation / drying of a drained and back ventilated cavity.

Structural Performance: Provide solid phenolic engineered façade wall panel assemblies capable of withstanding the effects of the following loads and stresses within limits and under conditions indicated, based on testing according to ASTM E 330:

Wind Loads: To be based on local building code or structural note sheet, whichever is greater.

Deflection Limits: Solid phenolic wall panel assemblies shall withstand wind loads with horizontal deflections no greater than 1/60 of the span.

Thermal Movements: Allow for thermal movements from ambient and surface temperature changes by preventing buckling, opening of joints, overstressing of components, failure of connections, and other detrimental effects. Base calculations on surface temperatures of materials due to both solar heat gain and nighttime-sky heat loss.

Temperature Change (Range): Minus 20 to plus 180 degree F ambient; 180 degree F material surfaces.

AFFIXING SYSTEMS

3.1 System: “FS series C-100” Non-exposed attachment system on fixed depth aluminum sub-framing.

Standard 2-¾” nominal depth (additional depths available) from sheathing to backside of panel. Attachment system is comprised of aluminum channel type extrusion attached in a vertical position to the structural substrate of the wall assembly. Aluminum extrusion cross members span horizontally and engage into an aluminum extruded retainer clip mounted to the vertical member. Aluminum extrusion interlocking hanger clips are fastened to the backside of the phenolic panel and the hanger clips engage into the horizontal cross members. Open airspace between the back of the panel and the wall allows for unrestricted ventilation and shall provide drainage in the air space cavity. Horizontal and vertical panel joints will be open with an (optional) aluminum joint shield over the back side of the panel. Joint shield will be black in color unless otherwise specified.

Concealed fastening over fixed depth aluminum sub-framing tested and meeting the performance requirements of NFPA 285, NFPA 268, NFPA 259, NFPA 251 and CAN/ULC S134

System: “FS series V-100” Exposed fastener attachment system on fixed depth aluminum sub-framing.

Standard 1” nominal depth (additional depths available) from sheathing to backside of panel. Attachment system is comprised of aluminum extrusions that span horizontally and attach to the structural members of the wall substrate. Aluminum extrusion clips engage into the horizontal member and are positioned at the attachment points of the phenolic panel. Exposed panel fasteners attach the panel to the extrusion clips. An aluminum extrusion spans vertically overlapping the horizontal member and is fastened to the horizontal member. At the vertical panel joint, exposed fasteners attach the phenolic panel to a flange on the vertical member. Open airspace between the back of the panel and the wall allows for unrestricted ventilation and shall provide drainage in the air space cavity. Horizontal and vertical panel joints will be open with an (optional) aluminum joint shield over the back side of the panel. Joint shield will be black in color unless otherwise specified.

Components: Formed from extruded aluminum.

Include manufacturer’s standard extrusions with integral engineered gasket, panel clips, and anchor channels, by others.

Aluminum extrusions shall be manufactured to ASTM B221 using aluminum alloy grade 6063 and temper T6

Aluminum sub-structure designed to withstand structural loading due to wind load and dead load of the panel wall as required and concealed behind the open joinery of the panel system.

Extrusions, formed members, sheet, and plate shall conform to the recommendations of the specified system.

Extruded Aluminum Trim: Color as specified in the finish schedule.

Weather Resistive Barrier: Water resistive barrier, air barrier and rainscreen underlayment as approved by architect

Fasteners: Fasteners shall be austenitic stainless steel as recommended by panel manufacturer. Exposed fasteners shall be colored matched to panels where required by the architect.

Other installation systems - Include test documentation showing compliance with the performance criteria set forth in the specification, Section 1.3 and in accordance with the local building code.

Wall Panel Accessories: Provide components required for a complete solid phenolic wall panel assembly including trim, copings, fasciae, mullions, sills, corner units, clips, flashings, sealants, fillers, closure strips, and similar items. Closely match material and finish of phenolic wall panels unless otherwise indicated.

Flashing and Trim: Formed from 0.018-inch- minimum thickness, zinc-coated (galvanized) steel sheet or aluminum-zinc alloy-coated steel sheet pre-painted with coil coating. Provide flashing and trim as required to seal against weather and to provide finished appearance. Locations include, but are not limited to, bases, drips, sills, jambs, corners, endwalls, framed openings, rakes, fasciae, parapet caps, soffits, reveals, and fillers. Finish flashing and trim with same finish system as adjacent solid phenolic engineered façade wall panels.

Aluminum Extrusions: ASTM B 221, alloy and temper is 6063-T6 unless otherwise specified by manufacturer for type of use and finish indicated.

Fasteners: Self-drilling screws, bolts, nuts, self-locking rivets and bolts, and other suitable fasteners designed to withstand design loads. As required by architect, provide austenitic stainless steel exposed fasteners with heads matching color of phenolic engineered façade wall panels by means of plastic caps or factory-applied coating.

FABRICATION

Fabricate solid phenolic wall panels, affixing system and accessories at the shop to greatest extent possible, by manufacturer’s standard procedures and processes, as necessary to fulfill indicated performance, dimensional and structural requirements.

Panel lines, breaks, and angles shall be sharp, true, and surfaces free from warp and buckle.

Fabricate panels with slightly chamfered edges.

Panel Weight: [5/16” (8 mm) - 2.3 lb/ft^2], [3/8” ( 9.5 mm) - 2.7 lb/ ft²] [½” (12.7 mm) - 3.6 lb/ft^2.]

Panel Dimensions: Field fabrication shall be allowed where necessary, but shall be kept to an absolute minimum. All fabrication shall be done under controlled shop conditions when possible.

Sheet Metal Accessories: Fabricate flashing and trim to comply with recommendations in SMACNA’s “Architectural Sheet Metal Manual” that apply to design, dimensions, metal, and other characteristics of item indicated.

Protect finishes on exposed surfaces from damage by applying a strippable, temporary protective covering before shipping.

WALL CLADDING ASSEMBLY--EXECUTION

Definition: The Wall Cladding Assembly consists of the solid phenolic engineered exterior facade panels (Part 3), affixing system ( part 4) and all other components required to provide a fully functioning rainscreen wall system in full compliance with all applicable building codes and all requirements of these Specifications.

EXAMINATION

Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances, solid phenolic wall panel supports, and other conditions affecting performance of the Work.

Examine wall framing to verify that girts, angles, channels, studs, and other structural support members and anchorage have been installed within alignment tolerances per shop drawings.

Examine wall sheathing to verify that sheathing joints are supported by framing or blocking and that installation is within flatness tolerances required by phenolic wall panel manufacturer.

Verify that air/water barrier has been installed over sheathing or backing substrate to prevent air infiltration or water penetration.

Examine roughing-in for components and systems penetrating solid phenolic wall panels to verify actual locations of penetrations relative to seam locations of panels before panel installation.

For the record, prepare written report, endorsed by Installer, listing conditions detrimental to performance of the Work.

Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

PREPARATION

Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

Miscellaneous Framing: Install subgirts, base angles, sills, furring, and other miscellaneous wall panel support members and anchorage according to ASTM C 754 and solid phenolic wall panel manufacturer’s written instructions.

INSTALLATION

Attachment System Installation, General: Install attachment system required to support solid phenolic wall panels and to provide a complete weathertight rainscreen wall system, including subgirts, perimeter extrusions, tracks, drainage channels, panel clips, and anchor channels.

Install solid phenolic wall panels according to manufacturer’s written instructions in orientation, sizes, and locations indicated on shop drawings. Install panel’s perpendicular to girt and subgirts unless otherwise indicated. Anchor panels and other components of the Work securely in place, with provisions for thermal and structural movement.

Shim or otherwise plumb substrates receiving solid phenolic engineered façade wall panels.

Install flashing and trim as solid phenolic wall panel work proceeds.

Apply elastomeric sealant continuously between metal base sill angle and concrete or stud wall assembly, and elsewhere as indicated or, if not indicated, as necessary for waterproofing.

Provide weather tight escutcheons for pipe and conduit penetrating exterior walls.

Rainscreen Wall Installation: Install affixing system and standard back-ventilated, rainscreen wall system with extrusions that provide panel support for an open joint panel wall featuring an open airspace between the back of the panel and the wall substrate to allow for unrestricted ventilation and shall provide drainage in the air space cavity. On FS Series C-100 (concealed attachment system) attach wall panels by engaging horizontal support hanger brackets onto the horizontal rails leaving horizontal and vertical joints with a 3/8” open reveal. Adjust top bolts for level and alignment and add one fixing fastener at the top center bracket. On FS Series V-100 (exposed attachment system) temporary set panel by shimming it level and square and maintaining a 3/8” reveal around the panel. Starting at the center fixing fastener, attach the panel to the aluminum structure as indicated on the shop drawings. Attach the remaining fasteners by centering the fastener directly through the center of the hole allowing proper clearance on the entire fastener to accommodate movements caused by expansion and contraction.

1. Do not apply sealants to joints unless otherwise indicated on Drawings.

Fasteners: Use austenitic stainless-steel fasteners for surfaces exposed to the exterior.

Metal Protection: Where dissimilar metals will contact each other or corrosive substrates, protect against galvanic action as detailed by shop drawings.

Do not install panels or component parts with known or visible manufacturing defects.

Do not field modify component parts during installation in a manner that would damage the finish, compromise the strength, or result in visual imperfection or a failure in performance. Return component parts that require modification to shop for re-fabrication or replacement.

Anchor panels and sub-framing securely per engineering recommendations and in accordance with approved shop drawings to allow for necessary movement and structural support.

Install accessories with positive anchorage to building and weather tight mounting and provide for thermal expansion. Coordinate installation with flashings and other components.

Install components required for a complete solid phenolic engineered façade wall panel assembly including trim, copings, corners, seam covers, flashings, sealants, gaskets, fillers, closure strips, and similar items.

Flashing and Trim: Comply with performance requirements, manufacturer’s written installation instructions, and SMACNA’s “Architectural Sheet Metal Manual.” Provide concealed fasteners where possible, and set units true to line and level as indicated. Install work with laps, joints, and seams that will be permanently watertight and weather resistant.

Installed product must have protective film, labels and stickers removed.

FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

Conform to Independent Inspections and Testing requirements specified Section 014500

Testing Agency: At Owner’s discretion, engage a qualified testing agency to perform tests and inspections.

Site Tests: At Owner’s discretion, perform additional tests and inspections, at Contractor’s expense, to determine compliance of replaced or additional work with specified requirements.

Prepare test and inspection reports.

ADJUSTING

Adjust final panel installation so that all joints are true and even throughout the installation. Panels out of plane shall be adjusted with the surrounding panels to minimize any imperfection.

Remove and replace panels damaged beyond repair as a direct result of the panel installation. After installation, panel replacement shall become the responsibility of the General Contractor.

CLEANING

Leave installations clean and premises free from residue and debris from work of this Section.

Remove temporary protective coverings and strippable films as solid phenolic engineered façade wall panels are installed unless otherwise indicated in manufacturer’s written installation instructions. On completion of solid phenolic wall panel installation, clean finished surfaces as recommended by panel manufacturer. Maintain in a clean condition during construction. Any masking intentionally left in place after panel installation on an elevation, shall become the responsibility of the General Contractor.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

The installed Wall Cladding Assembly shall conform to all applicable codes and shall achieve all standards set forth in this Specification, including without limitation, the following:

High-Tech Companies to Invest $4 Billion in New York State, Cuomo Says

ALBANY — I.B.M., Intel and three other technology companies agreed Tuesday to pour $4 billion into computer-chip research in New York, promising to hire thousands of workers and giving a major boost to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo as he campaigns for companies to invest in the state and create jobs.

Mr. Cuomo, sounding downright giddy as he kicked off an economic development conference here, heralded the investment as a “really, really big deal” that proved that New York, especially upstate, could lure new investment from major corporations flush with potential suitors.

His announcement came as former President Bill Clinton, whom Mr. Cuomo served as housing secretary, made an appearance at the conference and urged business leaders and local officials to embrace environmentally friendly technology and new industries as they try to create jobs.

The computer-chip investment deal will also include Samsung, GlobalFoundries and the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. The governor’s office said it would create 2,500 high-technology jobs and 1,900 construction jobs, and would also preserve 2,500 existing jobs.

“I think it’s important to remember, as we start this conference — a better affirmation of our potential you could not have,” Mr. Cuomo said. “These companies could have gone anywhere on the globe.”
Over the past two decades, New York State has invested heavily in the burgeoning nanotechnology industry, primarily in the capital region. Mr. Cuomo and others have highlighted the effort as a model for regional economic development in the economically depressed upstate region.

The state will spend $400 million over five years as part of the new research deal. The money will go toward expanding the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at the University at Albany, and the investment by the technology companies will go toward creating jobs in Albany, Yorktown Heights, East Fishkill, Utica and Canandaigua.
Mr. Cuomo and other lawmakers said they hoped that the new research and development activities would lead to the construction of chip plants in several years, creating many more jobs, and would also serve as an example to other companies that New York was increasingly attractive to major corporations seeking to invest in research and high-technology manufacturing facilities.

“It’s huge for the message, and it’s huge for the jobs that go with it,” the State Assembly speaker, Sheldon Silver, a Manhattan Democrat who has been a booster of the nanotechnology sector in the capital region, said in an interview.

The semiconductor deal was promptly overshadowed on Tuesday by the news that the second-largest union of state workers had rejected their labor agreement with Mr. Cuomo. But before that, its announcement created a mood of triumph at the capital, where the governor had summoned members of 10 regional councils that he appointed to compete for state economic-development funding.
Mr. Clinton’s visit only added to the festive mood, as Mr. Cuomo joked about picking up a southern accent from working under Mr. Clinton, and his staff cued a brief slideshow of old photos showing the governor, with noticeably darker hair, working alongside Mr. Clinton when he was president.

In his speech, Mr. Clinton, citing San Diego’s success with biotechnology and the computer simulation business in Orlando, Fla., suggested that the capital region could similarly exploit its nanotechnology industry to turn around its economic fortunes.
Mr. Clinton focused mostly on giving economic-development tips: he particularly encouraged pursuing jobs related to clean energy sources and retrofitting buildings to be more energy-efficient. But he also offered a dollop of praise for the governor and lawmakers for their handling of the state’s budget gap last winter, suggesting that Mr. Cuomo’s fiscal stewardship would help encourage businesses to invest here.

“I travel all over America and all over the world, and the confidence people have in New York outside this state has exploded just because the government did its job,” Mr. Clinton said. “They showed up, passed the budget on time, didn’t raise taxes — it’s an amazing, amazing thing for you.”

Butler University's Hinkle Fieldhouse has reigned as one of the nation's great sports arenas for more than six decades. The classic facility was constructed in 1928 and has stood up to the test of time, maintaining the splendor, character and atmosphere that made it one of the nation's most famous basketball arenas more than a half century ago. The facility has played host to a number of significant events over the years. One notable event was the 1954 match up of tiny-town underdog Milan High School against the powerhouse Muncie High School for the State Championship. Underdog, Milan's buzzer-winning basket and Championship win was immortalized in the 1986 movie "Hoosiers."

Since it's inception, season after season, attendance swelled and crowd enthusiasm escalated to a point where fan reaction in the highly reverberant structure became the expected noisy norm. And, intelligibility plummeted. For many years, the ensuing "racket" created by highly partisan well wishers was considered to be a natural addition to the ambiance offered by the facility.

Over the years several attempts were made to increase the intelligibility of the proceedings, but with scant regard to any correction of the underlying acoustical deficiencies.

Wright Consulting Associates, Inc. held strongly to the belief that the acoustics in the 6,000,000-cubic-foot space, with its attendant plus-6.0RT60 reverberation time, would have to be “tamed” by at least 2 seconds before any proposed sound system could be deployed successfully. Wright stated, “Make it quiet, take the destructive acoustical components out of the room and then (and only then) design a sound system that works, because [sound] systems will not overcome poor room acoustics. This design approach appears not to be the usual delivery process in the pro sound industry. But it is the favored and obvious approach in the world of professional design. While it conﬂicts with the design-build process of sound systems solutions and product-driven sales alone, it is the absolute hallmark for Wright Consulting Associates, Inc., and has vastly contributed to our successes.”It was thus determined that only if acoustical renovations could be properly balanced ﬁrst, with a sound system replacement as second priority, could crowd noise could be managed, excitement be increased and, of course, engineered clarity for both PA and a very enthusiastic acoustical Pep Band be greatly improved.

To help bring the +6.0 reverberation down to manageable levels, Wright Consulting Associates installed 42,000 square feet of MBI Lapendary panels.

The 100,000-square-foot building, to be named William H. Gates Hall, will be built on the current site of the Hoy North parking lot, on Campus Road across from Barton Hall. Gates Hall will house the Department of Computer Science, the new Department of Information Science, and research and teaching facilities for both departments, according to Daniel Huttenlocher, dean of CIS.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation gave the university $25 million in January 2006 to support the construction of a signature building for information science.

Phase II of this project will bid on 9/19/11. Downey Sales Associates will be bidding on a few different materials on the job.
